TIPS AND TRICKS TO COMBAT DRY SKIN

TIPS AND TRICKS TO COMBAT DRY SKIN

Here we go again! Wither colder temperatures and shorter days we're finding it more and more challenging to keep our skin from getting dry. Due to a few combinations of factors like the air's dropping in humidity, incessant cold wind, and constant dry indoor heating, our skin has a hard time retaining moisture. Unless we chase the sun and humidity around the globe we're pretty much forced to confront the truth -  we need to pivot to help our skin adapt.

In lieu of all this we've assembled a few digestible tips and tricks for your easy reference on how to combat dry skin. Each of these tips are standalone - you don't need to do every single one of them and we always encourage you to try adding only one or two new things into your routine at a time.

Tip 1: Find a super-hydrating mask.

Masks are a go-getter of a product. They're the quick and easy solution to add into any routine if you're crunched on time. Life gets away from us, and we find it so so so important to be intentional with nurturing ourselves and finding opportunities to take our moments of tranquility.
We've got a real solid collection of hydrating/replenishing/nourishing masks here at Spruce. It's up to you to choose the one that best fits with your skin.

Éminence's Strawberry Rhubarb Masque

A sweet treat for your face - this mask smells delicious and works like a dream. Since it's a cream-based mask, you can apply it before bed in a thin layer and sleep in it to let it work its magic overnight. Alternatively, you can apply it to freshly washed and dried skin and leave it on for at least 5 minutes before taking it off. It's easy, gentle, soothing, and ultra-hydrating.

Josh Rosebrook's Advanced Hydration Mask

Winner of the 2022 New Beauty Magazine “Best Hydration Mask,” this intensive mask is for those who need a blast of hydration much deeper than a cream can provide. This mask contains Polysaccharide-rich Indian Senna Seed which mimics hyaluronic acid and assists the skin's ability to hold onto water.  It’s formulated to be safe enough to even be used daily or, slept in overnight for ultimate nourishment.

Tip 2: Build a richer, more moisturizing routine

It can feel like a chore to switch up our routines as the seasons change, but listen - it's necessary. To stay warm in the colder months, many of us turn to forced air heating in our homes. Think about that - you're laying (ideally) for 8 hours with warm air drying out your skin. A quick fix is switching out your night routine for something a bit heavier, to keep your skin protected while you sleep. We're talking rich, buttery, balms/creams/oils to seal you up and protect your skin while you slumber.

OMAD's Miracle Balm

A team favorite across the board, this mask is a safe bet for anyone with any skin type. Grounded in Traditional Chinese Medicine and chockfull of herbs and mushrooms that soothe and hydrate, the Miracle Balm will restore elasticity and radiance in your skin. This balm happens to be one of our favorite gifts as well because truly anyone can benefit from this balm. Folks love it for its non-greasy fast-absorption finish.

Anfisa's ÂN-BALM Radiant Hydra-Balm

Anfisa makes three products total and we're obsessed with all three of them. Their Hydra-Balm is composed of 86 different antioxidants which do a number for your skin's health. It's got this really soothing fresh cucumber smell to it, which matches its ability to soothe redness and irritation in the skin. It's wax-free and has a rich texture to it without feeling too greasy.

Tip 3: Add in a hydrating serum.

Serums are the magical step in your skincare routine that penetrate most deeply into your skin and get work done where a balm, cream, or oil can't. Adding in a serum whose intent is hydration and repair will do a lot for your skin - helping your skin be stronger on its own to better retain moisture and repair itself after being damaged from external factors.

Botnia's Hydrating Serum

The quickest, most effective way to get your skin to stay hydrated most effectively is adding in a hyaluronic acid. This powerful humectant binds water and holds onto it, which is essential for hydration in the skin. Adding in a simple hyaluronic acid serum can work wonders for anyone whose skin is feeling dry throughout the day. We love Botnia's Hydrating Serum for its efficacy, simplicity, and sustainable packaging.

Ursa Major's Mountain Glow Golden Serum

A serum that might very well replace all the other serums in your routine, this serum is utterly stacked with powerful Vitamins A, C, and E. All of these Vitamins bundled up into one bonafide multi-tasking serum - boosting glow, overall moisture, skin barrier strength, and texture. To be used day and night, layering this serum after your toner and before your moisturizer is going to get you through these long cold months.

Tip 4: Hydration from the inside out.

Often looked-over, we forget that hydration can be boosted from the inside-out! We carry a bountiful array of supplements and adaptogenic goodies that in-tandem with your topical routine can work wonders. That includes helping your skin's own ability to stay hydrated.

ORLO's DHA Polar Omega-3's and Active Omega-3's

Our Co-Founder Jenn's favorite active Omega-3's, this supplement is vitally important for our bodies. Directly supporting our skin barrier to relieve itchy, dry skin, these supplements actively aid in cognitive function, eye health, and so much more. 100% plant-based, harvested from omega-rich Icelandic microalgae - ORLO has created the most sustainable supplement on the market. This supplement is definitely one to consider as it will greatly impact your skin's health and a plethora of other things for your body's overall well-being.
