How I Care For Myself So I Can Show Up For Others

As a co-founder of Spruce, my understanding of care has grown alongside my own journey as a mother, a community member, and a woman learning to listen more closely to her body.

Early on, I didn’t fully understand how deeply the way I cared for myself would shape how I showed up for my family, my work, and my community. That understanding came through lived experience. I slowed down. I spent time in nature. I studied the fascia and lymphatic system, explored energy work, and learned how to let my body lead instead of bypassing it.

What I’ve learned is simple and profound: the body is always communicating. When I soften and regulate, everything becomes clearer. My intuition strengthens. My presence steadies. I lead from a place that feels true.

The nervous system matters. How I tend to myself, ripples into my home, my work, and the spaces I help create. When I care for myself with intention, I can get from fullness rather than depletion.

At Spruce, this belief is foundational: care isn’t something we add on, it’s where everything begins. We honor the body and move at a pace that supports regulation and authenticity. We don’t just support individual healing, we contribute to a more connected collective.

We are not separate. We are energy and water, constantly affecting one another. How I show up matters. Choosing to tend to myself as how I stay grounded, lead within integrity, and remain connected to what’s true.

When things feel loud or overwhelming, these are a few ways I return to myself:

I step outside and breathe slowly through my nose, letting the exhale, long and steady. I move my body – rocking, swaying, reminding myself that I’m water and energy, always in emotion. I go to nature and feel the ground beneath me.

I lean into sensory care. Smelling your favorite skin care, product, placing oil on my skinner face, letting touch and scent bring me back into my body. I listen to music or healing mind app, one of my favorite tools for nervous system support.

Being present with my children brings me back to joy and creativity. And above all, I listen inward, letting my body and intuition guide me back to what feels true.

Gently,
